This James Bond Alum Was Reportedly Set To Play A Key Illuminati Role In Doctor Strange 2

Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is filled with shocking scenes, shocking surprises, and comic book appearances. But none of the film’s sequences or set pieces have created the same amount of controversy among comic book fans as its Illuminati sequence. The scene in question occurs close to the midpoint of the film’s “Multiverse of Madness” and shows Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) find themselves in a world that is Earth isn’t controlled by the Avengers or the X-Men as well as S.H.I.E.L.D., but by an unidentified organization called the Illuminati.

The mighty roster of the team includes famous comic book heroes such as Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Black Bolt (Anson Mount) as well as Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor). The Captain Marvel variant of Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch) is also part of the team and so is a version that is Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) who was the original Avenger in place of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). The most intriguing character of the Illuminati however, would be Reed Richards. The legendary Marvel hero is played this film in the film by “The Office” actor John Krasinski, and his appearance in “Multiverse of the Madness” is the first time a member of the Fantastic Four has appeared in the MCU.

The character’s appearance on screen has created quite a controversy in the minds of MCU fans. It appears, however, that Krasinski might not be the one Marvel Studios always wanted to portray Reed Richards in “Multiverse of Madness.”

Daniel Craig was reportedly Marvel’s initial choice for the role of Reed Richards

In a tweet from a few days ago, Deadline Senior Film Reporter Justin Kroll claimed that John Krasinski was not Marvel Studios’ “first choice” to be Reed Richards in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” In fact, Kroll says that Marvel initially wanted to include the former James Bond actor Daniel Craig be one of the Fantastic Four leaders in the film. Still, the plans changed after Craig decided to pull off the project due to the fact that he was not willing to take the risk of getting COVID-19 and the disease to the members of his family.

In a subsequent tweet, Kroll confirmed that Craig was set to make an appearance as a cameo in “Multiverse of Madness” however he was of the opinion that a cameo appearance was not worth the risk of getting sick himself or relatives with the COVID-19 virus. In addition, Kroll disclosed the entire information in response to a tweet, which discussed how Illuminati scenes that are featured in “Multiverse of Madness” were shot in fragments because of actors’ schedule conflicts. However, until someone is involved in “Multiverse of Madness” actually released to confirm the fact that Craig was originally planned to play the lead role in the movie It’s probably best to view this as an unconfirmed report for the moment.

Whatever the truth or not the story is likely to be a shock to the majority of Marvel Comics fans. In contrast to Krasinski who comic-book fans casting the character of Reed Richards for years, Craig’s name hasn’t been mentioned in any discussion regarding his role in the Fantastic Four. This makes him somewhat odd to be Reed Richards, and he does not look like the comic book character at all.

It’s still plausible to conclude that in the event that Craig was in the role of Reed Richards in “Multiverse of Madness” it could have been a huge shocker.
