The Korean drama “Squid Game” is undoubtedly the best example of a television figurative Cinderella story. 

The series was created by Hwang Donghyuk and quickly became one of the most watched new Netflix shows. 

The story is about universally relatable themes. Gi-hun (Lee Jung-Jae), a compulsive gambler, loses his winnings to repay a loan shark.  

He becomes more desperate. He must join a high-stakes children’s game run by a secret cabal of sadistic plutocrats, who promise a huge cash prize. 

You also risk your life if you lose the game. This game is for those who are desperate.  

The contestants often return to this game, even if they have the option to leave. This is because their debt has become too overwhelming. 

Netflix was quick to approve a second season due to the popularity of the series. The creator has some disappointing news for fans. 

Season 1 of “Squid Game,” ends with a cliffhanger. Gi-hun has finally had a chance at a real relationship with his daughter after winning the games. 

He has now cleaned up his act and can fly to the United States with his winnings. Gi-hun is not satisfied with the win.  

Good news! We will be able to see the outcome of Gi-hun’s guilt. But viewers will have to wait longer than expected to see that resolution. 

According to Vanity Fair, the new season will not be available on Netflix until 2023 or 2024. 

Although it may seem like a long wait, Hwang Dong Hyuk has many intriguing concepts in store. 

Hwang enjoys thinking about universal, big themes that have existential implications. This propensity made Season 1 fascinating and a timely social critique. 

It partially explains why the series was finally picked-up after 10 years of development.  

Season 2 will, reportedly, bring new games and the return of Gi-hun to the series, as well as a deeper exploration into class and social obligation. This is exactly what the Season 1 finale promised.
